Lake San Antonio is in
Monterey County, California.
The lake is formed by an earth
fill dam on the
San Antonio River. The dam
is 202 feet tall and was
completed in 1965. The lake and
dam are owned by the Monterey
County Water Authority. The lake
has a capacity of 335,000
acre feet Lake San Antonio's
primary purpose is to provide
groundwater. Geographically, it
is divided into two sections:
South Shore and North Shore.
Lake San Antonio is known as one
of the largest eagle winter
habitats in Central and Southern
California. Watch from shore, or
take a guided boat tour during
select months. Bald eagles
traveling the Pacific Flyway
from cold northern regions pass
the winter here, forming the
largest gathering of eagles in
central and southern California.
Each year an Eagle Count is held
in cooperation with the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service. Over
60 eagles, both golden and bald,
have been spotted around the
Lake San Antonio area. The big,
majestic birds attract visitors
from around the world. Other
wildlife that may be spotted
include deer, bears, snakes,
mountain lions, bobcats, white
pelican, heron, canada geese,
grebe, quail, hawks, squirrel,
rabbit, coyote, foxes and wild
pigs. The lake provides
spectacular fishing
opportunities for striped bass,
large and smallmouth bass,
catfish, crappie, carp, red ear,
and bluegill. Boat launches are
available at both South Shore
and North Shore. Go to

for more information.
The North shore offers over 500
campsites on the shore where you
can leave your boat moored in
the water rather than launching
it every day. San Antonio also
offers picnicking, fishing,
hiking, swimming, waterskiing,
and wakeboarding that you can
enjoy year round. Lake San
Antonio has 12 trails covering
over 26 miles. The Los Robles
Equestrian Trail, located at the
North Shore, is an 11 mile
moderately challenging trail
winding through fields, oak
trees and along the shoreline.
Ranging from beginner to
advanced, these trails are an
excellent opportunity to enjoy
close-up, the wildlife and
scenery. Go to
